Day 6: Edinburgh- Writers and Pokemon
Sundays are lazy days, and so it was with us. We didn't really have a set plan since a lot of places are closed on Sunday, so we "slept in" again. There were two things on our itinerary: The Writer's Museum and the Stockbridge Market. But first, breakfast:
We found a nearby cafe called Patisserie Valerie that had nice breakfasts and Jeff could enjoy a nice cup of tea as well. It was really cute and had some good looking desserts. I wish I had room enough for them!
Fortified with a good breakfast we walked to the market. It was small and on a street corner, with about two dozen stalls selling various local foods, crafts, and whatnot. Too bad we had already had breakfast, there were some delicious looking food stalls there! It was small enough that we walked through pretty quickly. Well then, I suppose it was on to the next thing on our list!
The Writer's Museum, like the Museum of Childhood, is a free museum that consists of 3 floors with famous writers from Edinburgh: Robert Louis Stevenson, Robert Burns, and Walter Scott. As a librarian, I can say that I have read none of their writings, but it was still a fun little museum! It's nice to learn things.
We had seen a small replica of the Walter Scott Monument and decided to go see the real thing since it looked so cool. It was just a 5 minute walk away and we passed by some street performers and craft booths outside the Scottish National Gallery. The monument was pretty cool up close, and quite a huge monument to a writer!
While we were there someone finally noticed our cool Pokemon buttons we made! They were out raiding and was in contact with the Edinburgh Pokemon Go Discord group, so we tagged along, traded a few Pokemon (no regionals we didn't already have, unfortunately, but we have TONS of Mr. Mimes for our friends at home) and did two raids with everyone. During the second raid it started to rain. Not hard, but that kind of blowing, misty rain that seems to get everything wet REAL fast. So we finished up the raid and ran to a Starbucks to warm up and chat for a little bit. Mostly about Pokemon. So that was fun! We made some new friends! Thanks Pokemon Go!
We went to the hotel to get into some dry clothes and then headed right back out, but we didn't really have anything in mind. We bought a pass for the tram and just rode it up and down Edinburgh, getting off at stops if we passed by a shop we wanted to check out. At dinner we stopped at the Fill Station (an American eatery, yeah, we're really immersing ourselves into the culture here) and then returned to our guesthouse for an early bedtime. Our flight is at 8 am tomorrow and we don't feel like racing through another airport so we're going to be waking up nice and super early tomorrow, where we'll fly back to Dublin and meet back up with my parents.
So see you tomorrow where we'll be reporting from Northern Ireland! Good night!

Mmm, eggs Benedict for me and pancakes for Jeff!
