Day 11: Ireland- A cool breeze and warm fire

Greetings from Achill Island! We are currently having a cozy night in the Bervie B&B living room with a crackling fire (with a delicious, slightly smoky, peat smell) and having dessert with coffee and tea. It doesn't get any more relaxing than this!

There's not much to really talk about today since a lot of it was spent driving to our destination which was 4 hours away from Donegal, so this will be a short post. It was storming and windy once again when we woke up this morning, but it brought us the most beautiful rainbow we could see while we ate more delicious french toast.

We were sad to say goodbye to the Ardeevin and it's lovely hosts Mary and Sean, but it was on to our next destination. Along the way we took a scenic route through Gleniff on the Horseshoe drive to see the Dartry mountains.  Did you know sheep are able to defy gravity? I swear some of those sheep high up on the mountain were just standing there where the cliff was sheer up and down. Crazy!

For lunch, we were able to meet Paddy and Nora Flynn, who is a distant cousin on my dad's side. It was with them that my parents were with while we were in Scotland, and they had shown my parents to the town from whence Dad's (distant) relatives had come from.  Today's journey brought us back to near where they live, so we met up with them for lunch at the Cot and Cobble in Balina. It was nice to finally meet them and hear Paddy and Dad talk Ancestry.com stuff.

After another two hours of driving, we drove up to our next B&B, The Bervie.  Right along a beach where the Atlantic ocean comes in through the Keem bay. I don't think I have ever been to a beach where it's too cold to take off my socks and shoes or go diving right in. It still is really nice though to hear the waves, and there's some really cool and different kinds of rocks on the beach here, so that was fun to collect!

And now we're here, after having eaten dinner at one of the few diners here on the island, called The Amethyst, and brought dessert back to the living room of our B&B and now working on this blog in front of a cheery little fire.

We'll explore the island a little more tomorrow! Good night!
